We’re thrilled that our friends at the Gellinudd Recovery Centre have won a major international award for good practice.
The brand new in-patient hospital – in Pontardawe, South Wales – was handed the Pedro Montellano Award by the Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks (GAMIAN) Europe at a conference in Hungarian capital Budapest.
The accolade recognises outstanding and innovative programmes delivered by mental health organisations and is awarded to just one organisation or project each year.
Experience
Gellinudd was designed by people with direct experience of mental illness, ensuring that guests are at the centre of the service – and are offered the opportunity to help lead the centre’s approach. It takes a holistic approach, offering treatment combined with support for physical health, skills and employability, and the development of social networks.
“There is so much for guests to do,” said service user Jo Roberts. “It’s good place to be – the best place to get better.”
Gellinudd is run by mental health charity Hafal, with funding support from the Big Lottery Fund and the Welsh Government.
The centres programme fits with existing services and meets clinical governance requirements, and was established with the support of specialists in the National Health Service.
