Supporting a person close to you with a drug or alcohol problem is very difficult, not just for the person but all the people surrounding them especially their family and friends.
Having someone you care about using alcohol excessively or misusing substances can create a lot of problems for families and carers. The stigma and shame created by misuse of substances often means families and carers will suffer in silence, creating eminence isolation which often then results in depression, stress, and other associated health problems. To find out that someone you care about is using substances can leave you with many questions.
